As we get into the summer months many of our patients are reaching for their contact lenses again so that they can wear sunglasses while outdoors.

Contact lenses do provide great vision and let you enjoy sports without having to worry about eye wear. With all the excitement to be ‘out and about’ doing things from swimming, biking, rock-climbing and hiking, it’s still important to maintain proper contact lens care and hygiene. Always remember to wash your hands before and after handling your contact lenses.

Also, remember to stick to your disposal schedule. Daily disposable tend to best when considering health and convenience. They allow you to enjoy wearing contact lenses without the worry about cleaning and storing the lenses. Either way, just remember to maintain your schedule and throw out your lenses as advised by your optometrist. It also a good idea to make sure you check the expiry date on your solution and replace your contact lens case on a regular basis to minimize the risk of infections. Check to see if your contact lenses have UV protection especially if you plan to be outside with them.

We still advise our patients to invest in a good quality pair of polarized sunglasses which helps protect the eyes and the retina really well. Whatever your vision wear choice just remember to be protect your eyes and stay on top of your routine and have your eyes examined regularly.
